Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

 2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

I always viewed myself as having fairly good running knowledge.  Maybe not.  I ran a treadmill workout today.  Ran 7 miles at a 7:54 pace and then did 6 x 1,000 yards at a 6:40 pace, then ran the last two miles at 7:54 pace.  The delema, CV pace is the pace you could run for an hour?  Well, I could not run a 6:40 pace for an hour unless it were the  first 9 and 1/2 miles of Hobblecreek.  Maybe I was running the CV pace too fast?  I stopped and walked for about 1 minute between each rep.   Easy pace is another problem.  I cannot bring myself to run slower than an 8 minute mile on the treadmill.  I could run that pace for 20 miles on a treadmill.  My last marathon St.George was 7:42 pace, likely about 8 min miles adjusted for a harder marathon.  Easy pace 1 to 2 minutes slower than your marathon pace?  These comments are turning into jibberish.   Anyway, happy with the workout.  I need to read Paul's comments again, maybe it will sink in this time.  Last peice of jibberish, holy cow, these workouts are tough.

Nice day for an easy run, just a few icy spots on the trail.  No planned pace or distance today, just run Forest.  Legs were somewhat stiff from yesterday's workout.  May have had a fast running blogger sighting on the trail.  I will check a couple of blogs later.  I had a day dream about setting a PR at St.George next year and was awoken by a sight slip on a patch of ice.

Treadmill,  7:50 pace, conversion. Early morning, may run a few more miles at lunch.

Treadmill, lunch  time run,  14 x 100 yard striders at 6: 40 pace.

Easy run is an Easy Run - no garmins, no watches, no splits and a guess on miles is just peachy.

B of BS Rools back in - Last comment for the day, I read Sasha's comments to Lybi, good wisdom.   I have the most "fun" when I am chasing a goal, get faster, place in my division, run more miles, get stronger, etc.   One thing the really stands out from reading blogs, the runners that want self improvement seem to stay with the blog.  Others fade quickly as they cannot keep up the pace.

Treadmill, 10 miles, avg pace, 8:05 treadmill conversion pace.  May run a few more miles later in the day. Low energy this morning, stopped twice to take a couple minutes for a break.  Ran 5 laps, stopped, then ran 20 laps and stopped and then ran the last 15 with the last lap at a 7 min mile pace.  Personal observation, last couple of months, the increase in miles has given me more endurance.  Today was an example, normally, on a low energy day like today, I may have run only 6 or 8 miles at a slower pace.  I'm not sure this will translate into better races.  Also, running more miles is addictive.    I long for the morning runs in the summer.

Cold, Burr, - ran in new CW  tights, x-mas present.  I could not tell a difference when running, just like other tights.  The difference seems to be how my legs felt after the run.  Legs did not seem as tired, muscles stayed warmer.  But, I don't think the tights will help me run must faster in the winter series races.  Happy with the tights.   Also, ran in my new trail shoes.  They really make a difference in footing, slower afoot, but safer. 

Lunch time treadmill:   1 mile warmup,  5  x  1/2 mile at 6:04 pace.  2 min. recovery run between each repeat.  It was good to get the legs moving again at a faster pace and concentrate on form.

Wind, cold, ran with Sylvie and Sammy the first three miles, dropped Sammy at home, BS continued another 4 miles.  the south wind along the trail seems to be creating ore icy spots.  The running was slow and steady today, careful as she goes.  Really likek the CW tights for keeping the muscles feeling better after the run.
