Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

I was going to take today off.  Cashed in birthday gift cards from my daughters and bought some trail running shoes.  I just had to try them out.  I am going to call them after this blog entry.  Yes, they are better in snow, a little slower afoot,  but, quite an improvement in footing.  For the first time in many years, I must confess, I lost commando points yesterday complaining about running in the snow the first 1.5 miles.  I could just not get the hang of it.  Then I remember what Sasha said on his blog about high stepping.  I started the high knee lift running and got in the groove and had fun the rest of the run.  Sylvie even said me and Sammy ran like antelopes up one of the short under pass hills as we ran so fast.  Good thing, Sylvie keeps me balanced that I do not get too full of myself.

Well, try to be careful.  I altered my normal running route today to hopefully avoid many of the icy spots on the trail.  That part of the plan worked.  But, you either have grace or you don't, tripped over a chunk of snow/ice and rolled.  Hurt my running pride, small skinning of the knee and small bruise on the thigh.  Sylvie says I have my roll down pat as I have fell so many times.  Other than the fall, it was a nice morning.  Hopefully, we get in 4 or 5 miles at lunch today, hill workout on the treadmill.

Very early morning run on the treadmill.  The fall on the ice yesterday got me on the treadmill.  Decided to run the time out, 99 minutes,  7:47 pace with .5% grade.  Non-stop run.  Legs felt good except for the right thigh bruise from the fall. It should be gone in a couple of days.

The treadmill, after 10 miles, only measures in tenths of a mile.  I did not record the 12.7 on purpose.  I have not yet given in.  May run a couple of easy miles on the treadmill at lunch and stretch.

Cold, cold, early morning run.  Short baby steps, take no chances of biffing it again.  The run was somewhat uneventful.  I saw one cat, how could it be out in the freezing cold?  Two runners with a dog, dressed in about three coats.  I long for the summer runs of moon shadows, crazy gabbing walkers, bikers, foxes, shorts, sweat and runs that you never want to end.    No lunch time run today, almost an all day meeting today, yuck.

Cold, cold, col, cl... run.  Fingers still have tingle, nose is running, typing is slow, the treadmill is looking better.

Several bloggers have mentioned staying under the covers, the heck with the cold run, few have opted for the covers as the guilt later in the day would be too great.

Maybe to get our minds off the cold weather, we can get James or Lybi to stir something up?

Lunch time treadmill, 3 miles, 7:55 converted treadmill pace.  Right thigh still not firing 100%.

Treadmill,  9 x 1.25 miles,  ran the first mile of each 1.25 at 7:54 pace witht he last quarter at 6:50 pace,  rest/walk 1 minute, then repeat.  Right thigh bruise from ice fall still bothering me somewhat, hampered the intensity of the workout.  It should be better with a couple more days of easy running.

It is a good time of year to evaluate training plans, read blogs.  Us non-fast runners, have a great opportunity to read blogs of some of the best runners in the country to learn how they train.  This is pretty darn exciting.  I feel like doing repeats around my cubicle.

Cold run the Sylvie and Sammy, cold as something, Sammy ran 3 miles and was ready to go home.  BS continued on for another 5 miles.  Sylvie did about 6 good strideouts with one real, real, good hill stide.  I really had to work to keep up with her.  The wind from the south made it feel about 10 degrees colder when we turned for home.   Sylvie stopped at home 8.25 miles and I circled the big block a couple of times to get 10.01 miles.

It was real nice to have Sylvie out there with me, we picked each other up during bad patches.
