Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Saga of the bike, split a side wall yesterday, I went to two Wal Marts to find a tire, did not have a Kevlar.  My bike mechanic skills are limited, changing a tire and tube takes me 30 minutes, someelse maybe 10.

Nice morning for a ride, a few runners on the trail.  One runner of note, a young lady, I seen her a couple of times, must have been doing a long run. As I was about two miles from home she was sitting under a tree crying.  I stopped and offered help, she said I am having a bad day and had called someone to pick her up.  I don't know if I have ever cried during a long run.  But, I can see the emotion if it one of your last big runs and have a bad day.  Anyway, good there is always another day.

Rode the bike for 40.28 miles, nice effort.

Bike commute, 27.7 miles.  My entries are so darn boring, boring boring.  My work is so darn busy, busy busy.   I have been working 11 hours days with a 1 hour bike commute each way.  I am pooped and driving to work in the morning.  Sylive's birthday tomorrow, great wife, runner, artist, mother, friend and sweet, sweet, sweet not darn boring person.

Mini Running Short:  I have a good friend, running buddy, Sheldon, he has struggled for the last 4 or 5 years to shake nagging injuries that have kept him from running his tenth St.George marathon.  His training was going well, he has picked up some sort of muscle injury in his butt.  Last year he was devastated when he had to drop out at mile 16.  I had never heard of him to cry until that day.  We have raced against each other many times and ran many killer runs together.  Bloggers, enjoy your youth and cherish every moment of running while you have the body willing and mind strong.   (We both may take the same approach at St.George, run at the back of the pack and enjoy every step of maybe our last marathon)

Well, I have done some crazy things running, running in a foot of snow for 20 miles, running 26.2 miles in 100 degrees with humidity Maui marathon, and running a marathon after not running for 2 months.  Today's run puts me on another quest for the tough and crazy run.

Today was the longest run in 5 months, ran at a slow smooth pace. I learned a few lessons for St.George:  1) run in the dirt whenever possible, run on the left center crown, take short steps, smile, get in the zone, and St.George is doable.  The knee was no worse after the run than before.  The tough mental issue, the brace really limits the range of motion and slows the pace.  An 8:30 effort (no brace) is now the same effort with a 9:30 pace.   But, happy day, I hope to have a Fast Running Blog singlet to wear, kind of an oxymoron.

Early morning, rode with Sylvie while she ran 12 miles.  Sylvie almost has a rear end collison with another runner. Fast young lady runner, zoomed by Sylvie, pulled in front of her by two steps and stopped.  She was stopping for a water stop setup by the Salt Lake Running Company.  Anyway, no harm, good practice for Sylvie to be quick on her feet for water stops at St. George.

Byu alert:  watched BYU skunk UCLA,  then rode the spin bike for 30 minutes and did the Nordic Trak for 30 minutes.  My legs were a little sore after the easy 10 miles yesterday, my longest run in 5 months.  The Nordic Spin helped.  Legs feel better.

Runner Chat:  Talked to Rob and Derk, Rob is running TOU next saturday, good luck.
