Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Once a Runner (John L. Parker, Jr.)  Best fictional running book ever, a must read

Again to Carthage (John L. Parker, Jr.)  The Sequel to Once a Runner, not often a sequel compares, this one does

What I Talk About When I Talk About Running ( Haruki Murakami)  things we have may all thought, but may never blog

Roughing It - Mark Twain

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Water World - Acqa Jog - Felt good on the legs after biking the last two days. I have gained 4 pounds since not running, darn. It is tough to burn the same amount of calories as running, time to change the diet. Nothing too exciting on the run this morning, many different sea creatures in the lazy river.

Going NoWhere Fast - 30 minutes spin bike, good effort, ipod on the blink, darn, abductors, upper body circuit.  Nice little lunch time workout.

What is the opposite of mental meltdown - Mental Wakeup Call?

Mental WakeUp Call - answered myself, live in the now, train like an animal, be ready when the challenge comes.  You never know, I may be called to pull a slow boat to china, ride a spin bike to light up a city, acqua jogging may become an Olympic sport. "Be Ready"

Hot and Sweat  - Memory Count Down to June 1st - 30th place:  July 5th, 1997 - Lunch time run with Brett, hotter than hot, 102 degrees, were are tough, we can run ten miles in the heat.  We each took $1 with us and ran from work out 5 miles west to a gas station half way to Salt Air.  We walked in the gas station and instantly started sweating like no one had ever sweated.  Sweat was dripping on the floor, the place was packed with lunch time workers from the international area.  The darn $1 would not buy a gatorade.  We soon had several people offer to buy us the gatorade just to get rid of the stinky, sweaty runners.

Hey! Thanks for the BD wishes! I think Shana had some good advice- find a new passion. BUT not a replacement passion, just an "in the meantime" passion. How 'bout biking? Sign up for a bike race? Get some race satisfaction, whole new area to set PRs? Regardless, you're not allowed to leave the blog. Keep blogging cross training. I'll be cheering you on to that June 1st date!

From Michael on Mon, Apr 28, 2008 at 13:35:23

Probably the stress of disappointment has effected your diet some too, so I guess that may be incentive to watch what youre eating while waiting for your run comeback. Keep up that cross training, June 1 when you will know more isnt that far away. Besides you dont want slow Michael to catch up to you. Remember the words of McCarthur "I shall return"

I'm liking you're attitude Brent! And always enjoy your blogs, whether you running, in the water, biking/spinning, waxing philosophical, strolling down memory lane or whatever, keep sharing your insights - I think I speak for many of us who always look forward to what you have to say.

Like Christi said you are not allowed to leave the blog.

Great job, Brent. If someone ever asks me to power a city, I will definitely refer them to you. Fabulous, fabulous entry. Keep it up!

Just so you know I'm with all of them on their thoughts! You really are a big inspiration to all of us! Keep on keepin' on!

From Jody on Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 19:41:15

Thanks for the motivation! You would definitely be the gold medalist if motivation others was an Olympic sport! I loved the memories!

From James W on Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 21:10:47

I find myself immensely enoying your memory countdown bits - you should keep that up! You are doing a great job of keeping the fitness up - I think you will be surprised at how quickly you get back into the swing of things once you are given the "all clear" to start running again.

From Brent on Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 21:59:16

Blogging buddies, a big thanks to all of you. My rehab would lose the ump, pazazz, gusto, without your support. Sharing life's thoughts, ups and downs, getting support, being part of the running spirit, thats what it is all about.
