Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Snow Canyon, west canyon run - great day to run in the sun, shorts and short sleeve shirt.  We bought two Iron water belts, worked real welll, good effort on the dirt rolling up hill the first 4 miles.  On the way up, 6 turkey vulchers, circling high above a red rock cliff, really cool to watch, they really have  way of catching the updraft.   Legs were somewhat tired on the way done, knee was giving me a little trouble.  Syvlie was smoking me on the downhill, decided to try and catch her the last mile, caught and passed her the last 200 yrds, yea, beat her to the end, she laughed, she slowed down to let me catch up.   This 8 mile run is a very good workout.

Biggest Loser Fitness camp, about 10 women and 1 guy, jogging walking down West Canyon, gave them all a high five, and said great work, keep it up.  I gave a few more high fives to others, Sylvie laughed, hey, those are not biggest loser campers, didn't care, just having some fun giving encouragement, gave on camp member commando points, she was jogging slowly downhill, really putting out the effort.  I'm sure she knew nothing about commando points, but, she smiled and said thanks.

After we got back to the house, rode the road bike for 30 miles, up to snow canyon blvd, over to Ivins, down thru Santa Clara, back up Dixie downs to Snow Canyon Parkway, over to Snow Canyon, up the duathlon turnaround and back the house, nice ride on tired legs, good way to simulate a long run.

St.George has been great, love the area, running, biking, hiking.    Last note, contacted a swim coach, taking a lesson every two weeks, she has coached many Tri athletes.  I am still o the fence about signing up for the 2011 Iron Man, may wait until 2012 if my knee holds out.

It is hard to blog when your blogging for 3 or 4 days at once, loose some of the special thoughts about the day.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

Count the applies on a tree - count the applies from one apple seed, so is the potential within.

Sounds like a great week down in the warmth of the desert! Glad the knee behaved most of the time, at least enough to win the race :)

2011 Iron man would be amazing - I say go for it! With what you've done/do I'd count you as an ironman already - time to show it to the world!

*blonde moment*

Did you really see contestants from the Biggest Loser? Or, just people that *should* be on the BL? Or, that could qualify for it would be a nicer way to say it.

Keep up the encouragement towards others. I know that I certainly love to hear it when I'm trudging along.

KP - I don't know if the resort is affiliated with the TV show. But, we have seen the Biggest Loser Resort Van several times and the people attending the resort 3 times on the trail. I know, Biggest Loser has different meanings, was I being a smarty pants, no, not this time, I have mentioned this two or three times in my blog.

One thing to note, the trail where we have seen the camp members is tough, I mean a tough rolling 4 mile uphill trail, they deserve commando points and high fives.

Brent the Iron Man. That's got a nice ring to it.

From Brent on Mon, Apr 12, 2010 at 14:45:38 from 168.178.30.194

Burt - the Iron man - it is $500 to signup, buy a Tri bike - it may be more of a budget issue this year and signup for the 2012. Luckily, have a couple of great Tri buddies to get me going on training. So far, bought a wet suit, starting swimming lessons a week from friday. My next venture, an open water half Iron or Olympic distance, hopefully in August if the swimming goes well.

Burt, where do you live in Arizona? We are looking for a couple of spring or fall races not too far from St. George, any ideas?

Stay kool, b of bs rools out.

Brent - I live southeast of Phoenix. Not too far. I'll be moving back to Mesa in a couple of weeks. About 5 miles away from the Winzenz clan. I may do the 10k up in Kingman that I did last year. Not sure yet. I've been saving my pennies because I'm doing Wasatch Back, and that's gonna cost me.

From The Quiet Pirate on Mon, Apr 12, 2010 at 20:42:04 from 65.191.108.72

Brent- while whistling Dixie- outrunning the pretty ladies- and inspiring others with commando points and high fives. You're living the high life!

These entry fees can add up. Iron Man requires airfare- or a really long training swim- too. When you're ready, the race will be ready for you. It's like dirty dishes- it will be there waiting for you if you don't do it this year...uh, I mean tonight.
