Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Roughing It - Mark Twain

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Bike Ride - 20.5 miles, converted to 5 cross training miles.  Fun day yesterday, even though, only ran and jogged the 5K, it was fun to feel part of the running game again and see Sylvie do well.  2nd opinion DR. appt. on tuesday.  Brone bruise on the knee menicus (sp?) issues.

Running Shorts:  Kool - How did the use of Stay Kool come about?  In my early days of running, 1981, 25 pounds heavier.  It was not a pretty sight to watch my running.  My first race was a 4 mile run around the outskirts of Magna, what the heck was I thinking.  My buddies at work talked me into the race.  Not knowing what to wear, I wore some long wind breaker type pants, a beany (purple and white with Kool Aid on the hat).  I was over dressed to the max.  After about 1 mile or so, I was done, out of gas, sweating and suffering.  I looked like one of those contestents from the biggest loser.   As I was suffering to move along at a snails pace, my luck, running past the "running couple's house in Magna.  They were both very good runners and had just ran Boston.  As I am running by, could hear them laughing. Well, I thought, they would not laugh out loud at me.  Wrong, the next thing I heard was Diane T. (last name withheld) to her husband, I wish a could run like him and continued laughing.

I continued my suffering to the finish and told my buddies about the comments.  They got quite a laugh out of it and started calling me the Kool Aid Kid.  The name stuck for a couple of years.   One thing that the comment did, made me determined to beat Diane T. in a race some time that year.  It was kind of like your parents telling you cannot do something, a challenge.  About 6 months later, the chance came, a 10K from the U of U around 11th ave and down city creek to the old Salt Palace.  I had lost most of the weight baggage and had improved.  The race began, DT did not know she was racing against me.  She took off like a shot, my goal seemed out of reach.  I kept her in sight all the way to memory grove.  I finally pulled along side her, my comments, I wish I could run like you and took off.  Now, this was kind of risky, did I have the gas to hold her off and finish?  I am sure she did not know I was the Kool Aid Kid from many months ago and likely did not make sense of the comment.  But, it made my day to beat her in the race.  Although there was no trophy, no impressive PR and no cheering, it was an important race for the Kool Aid Kid.   Bottom line, goals and self made challenges are great.  So, Kool, from the Kool Aid Kid has stuck with me all these years.  So, when I say Stay Kool, that really means, Stay Kool to all runners, beginngers, woggers, joggers, elites, etc. we are all part of the running family.

Stay Kool, Kool Aid Kid Out

Lazy River - 1 hour - converted to 3 miles running, legs sore from the 5K saturday.  Pretty sad when your legs are sore from a 5K.  Well, maybe not just the 5K, did a 40 mile bike ride the day before the 5K.

Excercise Bike - 10.67 miles, 30 minutes, converted to 1 mile running.

Wood Pile -Last minute decision, ran two laps around the wood chip trail at liberty park this morning.  Maybe or maybe not a good idea.  As I have a Dr. appt. today, wanted to be able to describe problem areas around the knee.  The running went better than expected as far as the knee.  But, darn, running on wood chips is hard, an 8:15 pace felt like a 7:30 effort.

*Note, running on wood chips is way less impact than running on pavement, ashphalt and even dirt.
