Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Woke up the sounds of a shaking dog, Sammy. It is her signal that she needs to go outside for doo doo business. I decided to stay up and spin for an hour, spinning bike in the basement, before going to the spin class. Spin class was good workout, got there early, one the instructers also was early, spin a total of 56 miles.

When I got home from spinning Sylvie was waiting for me, road another 10 with Sylvie while she ran and served as her sag wagon. SLC running company was doing a training run for the SL marathon, counted about 50 runners on the parkway.

Note, I am signed up for the SL Half, plan on running. I need a couple of 4 hour workouts in the next two weeks.

Wow, I'm going to run the SL half as well. I had no idea that they did training runs for the race, I'll have to pay better attention to my 'junk emails' I guess :)

Great job on the 5000 miles on the bike today! On my cruise I did spin classes again and I forgot how much I liked them and what a GREAT workout they are. Glad it was a good Saturday!

Brent, maybe some bike races in your future? Are you doing any of the events at Ogden this year?

From Brent on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 14:19:47 from 66.7.127.219

Mike, your right on, I am saving to buy an carbon bike, dura ace components. I don't plan on serious bike racing, maybe a few 100 milers and the LoDaJay next year. I am also doing a short tri this year and hopefully a couple of duathlons. My knee know only lets me run on race days, 10 min. miles. But, thats ok, still out there. How is your training going, are you going to start blogging again?

Divine Miss M - Maybe we will meet at the SL half, my pace will be slow with the bum knee. Hope your training goes well. Are not you due for a tough 12 to 14 miler in the next week or two, near race pace effort?

Brent, sounds great on the bike races. I also would love to do a Tri. Training is starting to go a little better. Right after STGM I did that brutal Zion Park run, not smart. Long story short, re-fractured my leg. Thats why I totally let all blogging & running go for 4 1/2 months. Got the complete 100% clean bill of health from the Doc to run again 3 weeks ago. I am just being smart and getting the weight back off, really, really, enjoying the running right now. Zions Bank gave me a sponsers exemption for Ogden, so I will be doing that in May. (Nice and Easy all about the fun)!

Mike, just my take on running, it is so easy to get caught up in the hype of fast times, train harder, harder, harder and harder. I have done this many times with injury the result. Sometimes you do get the fast times, it is like gambling. Running for fun, good plan. I have ran the Ogden marathon 5 times, you will enjoy the run. Sylvie is running the Odgen half and me the 5K. We are staying at the Marriott. We may see you there.

Last note, blogging is great, great upside and some downside, the downside being the encouragement can lead to over training.
