Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Hobble the Hobble, going into this race, somewhat beat up from the race a couple of weeks ago and did not know what to expect.  As usual, the race started an hour late, me and
Sylvie lined up about 12 rows from the front.  Last year, lined up in the back and expended too much effort getting around runners, running side by side.  Well, make the runners pass me this time.   Pre - race stuff, talked to the Straley brothers, talked to Tina about old race times with Leno.  We found a nice place on the hill side, close to bushes, and with soft tree bark for setting.  Enjoyed the people watching.

The start, no warmup, save it for the race.   Ran the first four miles, hit mile 4 at 31:58, not fast, but fast for me.  These are the easiest miles, the next four miles my goal was to stay under 9 min miles, goal met, the last 4 miles were a grind, the pace, given my limited running, was ambitious.   Funny, a few old guys were cheering for the old guy at mile 8, I looked around, it was me.   Avg. pace for the race 8:43, a post knee surgery PR for the have, 4 minutes faster than the Ogden Half, happy with the effort, it would have been nice to hold on longer.   I almost caught Sylive going up the hill after mile ten, got within 20 yrds, she crested the hill and was gone.   I have her 2 to 1 in half marathons this year.

Reverse Brick Day - rode 24 miles on the bike when we got home, tiring ride, but needed.

Positive about the race, was not last, don't know my div. or overall placing, left shortly after the race.   Sylvie was upset, the shirt sizes suck again for women, this unisex stuff just does not work well.

Congrats Brent! Ka-BOOM for meeting your time/pace goals and getting that post surgery PR.

You're improving and moving.. good stuff.

Congrats to Sylvie too. Bummer she didn't get a good fitting shirt :-(

Congrats on another post-injury PR Brent. Always enjoy your race reports. Wish Kim and I could have snuck over that way to see folks come in but we had a busy schedule this morning.

You're in superb shape right now so Sylvie will have to work to gain that advantage.

Burt - the old man in me says I will beat more of those young whipper snappers next time, the young man in man says, I'm not old, those old farts cheering must be old.

QP - thanks for the KA-Boom, I will save that KA-Boom, for when it counts most.

Tom, thanks, means a alot coming from you, you know my situation, and the tough work it takes, even with no injuries to run your best on a given day. Hope you and Kim have fun at STG. Are you running the Spanish Fork Half? Prep race for STG?

I was called an old man up at Ragnar Utah this year. It's a special feeling.

From Lysa on Sat, Aug 21, 2010 at 23:26:40 from 174.52.25.64

That is so great! I loved reading this. I am with your wife on the shirt sizes, I wish every race would specify if they order unisex shirts or Men/Women sizes. I never know what size to order. Anyway, nice pace! You did great! Why do they start an hour late every year? I don't understand it..It is frustrating to me. Anyway, it was still a fun day wasn't it?!

From Clay on Sat, Aug 21, 2010 at 23:36:03 from 174.52.209.168

A very good effort Brent! Keep working hard big guy!

From RAD on Sun, Aug 22, 2010 at 00:04:59 from 67.172.229.125

EXCELLENT race!! For both you and Sylvie, another PR to tuck in your back pocket and pull out during Ironman 2012 when you need to dig deep.

When I signed up for OBX they specified on registration unisex fitted shirts, women may want to go a size smaller. WOW! What a breath of fresh air compared to the crud we put up with here in Utah. Smaller races I guess, but the fees are smaller too.

From Mike Warren on Sun, Aug 22, 2010 at 09:56:30 from 216.70.145.212

A huge workout day! 4 min PR, huge again! Nothing but positive. Brent, I have several neighbors who run 4 times a week and are in there youg 30's that cant run that pace for a half. Is STG next up? Get some R&R then back after it.

From Brent on Sun, Aug 22, 2010 at 13:51:29 from 66.7.127.219

Burt - being called an old man is always special, this old man he beat one, this old man he beat two, this old man will sneak up and run the heck out of you. Well, I did have very respectful young girl, maybe 14 or 15 pull up along side me and said you doing great, we chatted a minute and she ran on. There are some great kids out there to carry on running.

Lysa, thanks, most shirts become dog washing on yard work shirts, very few shirts are keepers.

Clay, thanks, hope you can get ready and do STG.

Mike, have a sprint Tri at Sand Hallow, first open water next month, and then STG. I may do another pool sprint Tri on labor day, not sure, I may be tending my grandson for a few days when my oldest daughter her baby, due Aug 30th.

Congrats on the post knee PR!! I think it is great you are able to still enjoy all of this.

From Lindsey Dunkley on Sun, Aug 22, 2010 at 17:40:14 from 75.169.150.178

Great job! Keep enjoying life and reaching your goals!

From Brent on Sun, Aug 22, 2010 at 18:37:24 from 76.8.201.223

Josse - good to hear from Queen Josse, yes, still fun, always a challenge.

Lindsey - well, I do have a very ambitioius goal, 2012 STG IronMan, swimming will be my biggest challenge. When the challenge is complete, and IronMan tatoo, then I may consider the easy chair, well until the next challenge.

Them and their stupid shirts and late starts!!!

Hobble on friend, hobble on.

From Brent on Thu, Aug 26, 2010 at 07:34:49 from 168.178.30.219

Super - one step at a time on those goals, you have plenty of time, sometimes late starts are the best.

T NA NA - thanks, Park City is tough, ran a 3:35 there as a warmup for Grandmas two weeks later, few years ago, never an easy marathon. The altitude is a big factor

K-Power - Hobble is much like Provo River half, not well organized, lousy shirts, they only get us runners because of the great courses, we are suckers for a fast time.
