Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

 2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Spinning wheels - arrived early, two spinning classes, last hard spin until race next saturday.  53 miles, converted to 13.25 miles cross training.  Knee feels good today, tempted to run, likely run tomorrow. 

B-think - I read a comment on a blog, won't mention the blog - running accompishments - "nothing noteworthy"  Now, if we never run a race, are we still a runner? Yes - I almost mentioned, put "I am a Runner - love running - "  as running accomplishments.  We are sometimes so set on PRs, races, etc. we do not give enough credit to running for the love of running.  Have you noticed, race reports are in the order of finish time on the blog, this seems to encourage more accolades for the fastest.   We have age division runners, runners with injuries, phsyical limitations, etc.  Does the fastest runner deserve more attention?  Good question?

2 spinning classes? Where are two spinning classes held back to back located? I would love to attend! I bet I can get RAD from the blog to go with me?

competing in races is by no means a requisite aspect of being considered a "runner," much less competing near the front.

In my book to be considered a runner all you have to do is lace the old shoes up and head out that door! I always thought that the true runner is someone that runs for the enjoyment of running, races are secondary. At-least that's my two cents.

Bec - 7:30 and 8:30 spinning classes each saturday at Murray Park Center. The instructor shows up at 7 a.m., allows for a good 2 and 1/2 hours of spinning. This would be good if you are injured or need the cross training. The race next weekend, Tuacon Olmpic distance duathlon, run a 5K, ride 24 miles and run another 5K. The course is fairly tough going up and down snow canyon in St. George, fun race. My race plan is to my strength, ride as darn hard as possible and hang on the last 5K.

Rambo and Trailing Aristotle - we all share the same view and love for running, races, a test of training, not the reason to run.

I'm with Rambo and Trailing Aristotle :) It's all about the effort - if the effort is there what does the finish time matter? I've seen top finishers and 'last' finishers, they both seem to be exhausted and put in the same effort - who's to judge that?

I'd be up for a back to back class - one more 90 min one to tune up and we'll be there!! Sweatin' puddles with the best of 'em - yes, Brent that's you!

Can't wait to see how the race goes next week, is a taper in order here? If so, enjoy the carb load and taper -I can give GREAT advice of where to carb load :)

I want in on the Murray Park Cycle class! For sure that is on my list to do for next week's workout.

Very interesting post today. It will definitely take some thinking on my part to come up with an answer for me. I know that I am in awe when watching the best runners in the world on television. Furthermore, one of my favorite running moments was that time I watched Allie run in taking first place at D-News this past year. There is something magical about that.

Now does that undermine the awesomeness of the mere love of running, no matter the race, no matter the pace? I don't think so.

I applauded and screamed my little heart out when Allie collapsed in the arms of her grandmother after crossing the finish line this past July 24th, I also applauded and screamed my little heart out when my dear friend completed her first marathon at SG this year in a little over 6 hours!

Bec and Rad - I will be in St. George next saturday - if you are coming to the back to back spin classes, let me know if advance, I will be sure to let the spin instructor know that two hard core gym rats are coming and they want the toughest spin classes ever. I have no doubt, with Gwen, that you two could make others in the class cry for mercy, without duffy.

Teena Marie, without Donny, it is an interesting discussioin item. Regardless of time or place, race or daily run, runs are best shared with others.

I didn't even realize that the race reports show up according to fastest pace. I always thought it was in the order that people entered them. I'm not exactly sure why but that rubs me the wrong way a bit. Maybe it shouldn't. I don't know. The main thing I LOVE about this blog is the support and friendship that if facilitates. :)
