Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Once a Runner (John L. Parker, Jr.)  Best fictional running book ever, a must read

Again to Carthage (John L. Parker, Jr.)  The Sequel to Once a Runner, not often a sequel compares, this one does

What I Talk About When I Talk About Running ( Haruki Murakami)  things we have may all thought, but may never blog

Roughing It - Mark Twain

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Early run, ran in the drizzle before the rain.  Easy the first 3 miles, then warmed up and ran a decent pace back home with hill push striders over all the short hills.   Lunch time run planned with Tony and Colleen, hope we don't get rained out.

Day dream during the run:  Visulizing breaking 1:30 at Moab, it is a real long shot, but, it was fun to day dream.

Treadmill Run, 8:11 pace 5 miles, rock n roll thru the five miles, highway to he..."

Funny Awards Note:  Just got a first place age division ribbon from the Sandy Turkey Trot 5K, a dollar tree ribbon, no turkey.  It must have been on that slow boat form China restocking the dollar tree.

Okay it is your turn to get called on the mileage recording. What is up with the 58.29 miles for the week? I am thinking that it should either be 58.5 miles or at least 58.3 miles! See the discussion board on mileage. We are going to start calling people on it, so watch the b.s. BS!

Day dreaming about your goal is good, but make sure you write down so it can become a reality.

Leave the guy alone James. No bullying on the blog. Especially about crazy pet peeves...

From Jody on Fri, Dec 07, 2007 at 10:30:08

Way to go today! Rain is not always the funnest to run in.

Day dreaming is the way to get the run done and nothing better to day dream about than breaking 1:30 @ Moab.

Cody, James: You are both right, I have sold out. I am a runner from a different time when running was simple and not cool:

No Garmins, no dry fit, no cool max, no gu, no blogs, many dogs on the loose, no running shades, socks were only changed once a week, all running clothes had holes, no measuring of miles in 100ths, we measured miles by telephone poles.

Is there a place in the running world for a running man from way back. Do I return to my running roots? I look in the running crowd tryihg to be proud as to be the from the old running school.

Dude, BS can take a little b.s. from others once in a while! Brent I am being labeled a bully for bugging you and some others about mileage. But there is no malice in my michief. I would bug Sasha and Cody about it still but they are starting not do it anymore, besides I have been bugging them for a year now and it isn't as fun now. It isn't really my pet peave, but it sure gets people going! Maybe because people don't want to admit that they are getting a little bit of OCD towards running.

Old school is cool, but there are great things about the new school too. Life is about balance in all things, so somewhere in the middle is probably the best place on these issues. However, don't get sucked into being a slave to the blog society either. And remember it is better to round than not to round.

From Lybi on Fri, Dec 07, 2007 at 17:52:55

Brent, if James gives you any more trouble, just sic Sammy on him. Make sure you put a doggy helmet on her first, though.

There's nothing wrong with adjusting to the times. In fact, if you don't adjust you might turn into a rusty old codger, like James. He he he. (I'm in trouble now...)

Good job on your run!

From James on Fri, Dec 07, 2007 at 18:09:09

Lybi is obviously talking about her husband (no offense to him). The real James on the blog (that would be me)is a young strapping lad , not an old codger. Although, I have found a few gray hairs lately. You better get old Sammy more than a helmet, I was thinking a full suit of armor!

From Lybi on Fri, Dec 07, 2007 at 18:17:20

Such animosity, James! See, that is the codger side of you talking. :)

From brent on Fri, Dec 07, 2007 at 20:23:03

James, it appears we may have a joust, you against Sammy. Sammy is giant white animal, sometimes known as a white yettie, other times known as a standard poddle. She may lick you until you surrender.

From James on Sat, Dec 08, 2007 at 01:38:09

In that case, I might be in a whole lot of trouble.
