Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Body be good miles, adventure run around Murray streets as the parkway was in bad shape. First few miles were slow as she goes and then legs starting feeling better.

Lunch time run, treadmill, 3 miles at 8 min pace, .5% incline.  Legs a little road weary.

Completed hamstring ball excercises, roll stretches, quad stretches.

Nothing exciting unusual today, no Holy Cows, no WOWs, no super chicks, no Gwen and no Harry Carry.

Brent I just looked at your race schedule. Wow! pretty aggressive, busy schedule for the year. I'm planning on doing alot of these races as well so it will be good to see you around. Hopefully with our continued training efforts the heavens will smile upon us and we can make a decent showing in our age groups. Good luck this weekend (5K race right?)!!!

From Brent on Wed, Jan 23, 2008 at 14:27:58

Thanks on the good luck. The race schedule seems agressive, but, I have taken the Sasha approach on most of these, no taper, just easy on thursday and friday (same distance). There are only a few of these that I am really keying on to incude: St.George, HobbleCreek, Ogden marathon, Bryce Canyon Half and one of the 5ks. I am going to pick a 5K this year to try and break 20 minutes, taper for the race and hold the break 20 minute pace as long as possible. I have not broke 20 minutes since I turned 50 seven years ago). Another mental note, I try and not get too high or low for races. My best races have been with no expectations or self pressure.

I know, kind of an odd approach, but, keying for each race would like get me injured. Stay Cool, see you at the races.

Brent, very good miles again! When you say your not going to taper much for most of the races, are you going to do a longer taper, for your key races? Thats what I did for Painters, glad I kept my miles up that week. Maybe with a taper, I could of ran a little faster, but I am eyeing the 2 marathons I have planned. Also I know you don't like expectations or self pressure, but, care to share your goal time for Ogden?

From Brent on Wed, Jan 23, 2008 at 22:37:06

Mike, I am full of gab tonight, your getting the long answer. Your right on, longer taper for key races. Well, goal time? I will know more after the Moab half and Salt Lake Half Marathon. These two halfs are toughter than Hobblecreek. I would like to be in the low 1:30s at Salt Lake and hopefully about 1:33 at Moab. If I can hit those times, will try for a 3:15 at Ogden. St. George goal, would like to break 3:10, need to run Hobblecreek in about 1:27 to give the 3:10 at shot. The problem, I really don't know where I am fitness and speed endurance wise as no races since St. George (ran St. George in 3:21 on 50 miles a week). The two winter series races coming up are all colder weather with Striders very tough courses. One thing I always stick to, if I am in shape to give it a shot, go for it. I have ran all my running PRs, I have nothing to lose. NO guts no glory.

Stay Cool, expect you and Marciej to rock as training partners. B of BS Rools out. P.S. It seems that you are somewhat in the same boat, how to assess conditioning for Ogden? I think your time at Painters already puts you ready to give 3:15 a shot at Ogden.

Brent, I love the NO guts no glory, attitude! It is a nice luxury to have those PRs in the bank. I want to get that BQ out of the way at Ogden, so I can let it all hang out at STG!! On the other hand, I "HONESTLY" feel, you are capable of setting some new PRs! I think you should rumble down STG with me, 2:50 maybe??? Life has no limitations, until you set one!! Brent - I think I have missed something, is there a new blogger named Gwen? I have seen a couple of references to her, is she a running buddy of yours? Is she not a person but a reference to something else?
