Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Again to Carthage (John L. Parker, Jr.)  The Sequel to Once a Runner, not often a sequel compares, this one does

What I Talk About When I Talk About Running ( Haruki Murakami)  things we have may all thought, but may never blog

Roughing It - Mark Twain

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Body Getting Better Miles - Nice morning for a run.  The walkers are starting to appear from winter hibernation.  The dogs are barking, the ducks starting love crazy and the two little house finches have came back to nest in our front yard bush.  Also, bought a 2007 semi-new honda ridgeline saturday, my old truck is done.  How does this all relate to running, don't know, but thats blogging.  I am always scared of the doctor, today is the day.

Stay Kool, recover and to the next adventure, B of BS Rools out

Dr. Appt. I have never had so much attention, medical student, resident doctor and the doctor.  Bottom, line, my knees could last another 30 years of running.  But: take heed,:

1.  Don't do leg presses more than my body weight, high reps

2.  Strenghten my hip adductors, high reps, low weight - will help stabalize the knees

3.  Strengthen quad muscles, high reps.

4.  Ice and heat three times a day

5.  Two aleve with breakfast and dinner the next week.

6.  Cut back to 30 miles a week the next couple of weeks, basically every other day running.

7.  The most painful advice, cut my running back to 50 miles a week, get my long run and quality workout in and cross train.  The 70 a week has been fun.

Well, it is more important to be in the race and finish, than not be in the race. Stay Kool

Hope things go well at the docs today Brent. Hope he's one of the good runner-friendly kind of doctors, not one of the dopey ones.

Ah the coming of spring is so nice isn't it? Always enjoy your blog, even when it has non-running stuff.

I'm glad you still have 30 years of running in your future! And 50 miles a week is still amazing! Thanks for sharing the info on doctor's advise, maybe it will help the rest of us!

Glad you got good news!! Congrats on the new ride! Being in the race is the best!

Yay for good news with the doctor! Take it easy and listen to your body during the next couple weeks, and gear up for Spring and Summer training :).

Brent, this sounds good! I realize, not the perfect news, but think of the positive. 50 mile weeks, but could you still maybe throw 15-20 more cross training miles in there? Your Doc sounds like a decent guy. Also, this is my opinion. You take your miles to 50, crosstrain, your body from taking less punishment becomes stronger than ever. Your never know, a new PR, just aroungd the corner! Glad to hear you will be back, stronger than ever!!
