Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Downsized - Started with entry to the Ogden Marathon, downsized to the Half Marathon and then downsized to the 5K.  They would not let me downsize to the Kids race, they were checking IDs.  This will not be much of a race report, raced the first mile only.

Pre-Race - Me and Sylvie walked and jogged a litte to the start, 3.1 miles.  We got the start about 10 minutes early.   The 5K stared on a short road of about 400 yards and then funneled onto a paved trail along the river.  With this in mind, did several debates with myself whether to start with Sylvie, 4 rows from the front, on start in the back.  I did a quick 50 run to see how my knee would hope up, short strides rolling over my feet forward.  Anyway, quickly decided to start with Sylvie, go fast at least until runners funneled onto the trail.

Start - The start was delayed to match the marathon start, about 10 minutes late, we all counted down to the start and took off.  Sylvie, was quickly yelling at me to not run, bless her heart, worried about my knee.  I said that I was ok and kept running.

Mile 1- 6:39  - It was then time to jog it in, the next two miles.  The next two miles walked the downhill underpass drops and ran on the grass and wood chips as much as possible.  Really nothing exciting.   (darn hard to run on grass and wood chips, uneven surface)

Finish - sprinted in just for the heck of it, meant nothing.

Sylvie Report - She will write her own report, she won her division with her best 5K time this year and got a very cool trophy.

Blog Photo Shoot - I think that I got photos of Sasha, Clyde, Josse, MichelleL, Logan, Cody, Kory, Chad and maybe Andy and a couple of other bloggers.  Not being real savvy with the whole down load thing, may need some Sylvie help.

Race Observations - It appeared the heat affected many runners, the times seemed to be slower overall, just a guess.  Two of my long time runners buddies, Frank and Brett had a tougher marathon than expected.   The two most notable - grit and determination, Sasha and MichelleL.  They could be American Gladiators or tiger tamers.  The look on their faces tell the story and would part any red sea of runners.

Brent, I got a nice laugh reading about your downsizing. Sorry they wouldn't let you whip up on the competition in the kids race. Great job supporting all the other bloggers today, I'm sure they appreciated it.

From Benn on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 22:37:51

Really great run today, Brent! I'm so happy! I found a couple quotes in my reading during my break at work today for us, which I'm posting on my blog entry for today (Saturday).

You're in my prayers buddy.

Nice to see you running!! Do you feel ok today? Ya know, you really should be writing for some newspaper. I love reading all your reports.

Way to go Brent. You may be jogging but thats still a good time and way faster than me. Glad you got out that has to be good for the running spirit. Hope that knee continues to get better. Falcon said he would like to run against you in the kids race!

From MichelleL on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 17:41:56

How did the knee hold up?

I am so sad I never found Sylvie or you after the race. Dang.

I would love my picture so I don't have to buy an overpriced one. I will send you a private message so you have my email address.

From Brent on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 18:43:53

Michelle, yes, send the private message and I will email them to you. I will attempt to attach them of all bloggers to one email and then another with just yours. Josse, if you want, send me your email and I will do the same. I took three pictures of each of you.

The knee, well, hopefully will know more after tues. second opinion from Dr. Gries, U of U sports team doctor.

Brent, sorry I'm a bit late getting to the weekend race reports, so many great races/racers, so little time! But anyway it's great to hear you were able to run and it sounds like you and Sylvie did great. Hope the knee held up OK and you won't suffer any ill consequences for not heeding Sylvie's advice to not run. That would be SUPER if you can heal without surgery.

Sorry so late response it's been busy after the marathon. But great race sounds like you had great fun in the race. It was definitely hot. I like the way you described your race.

From Christi on Tue, May 20, 2008 at 11:49:01

Wow- I just realized you ran a 5k and you were still able to get in a little running a couple days after. That sounds promising? I would love to see pics of the FRB- christi@summitmortgageut.com, IF you get a chance...
